 Kinnelon Borough Police Department

The Borough Police Department consists of 16 full-time officers, 1 special officer and several part-time dispatchers. A minimum of two officers are on duty in the Borough, working 12-hour tours during any 24-hour period, patrolling our 19.5 square mile community. The Business office and Records Bureau hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday (except holidays).

Individuals wishing to file a police report or wishing to speak with an officer may call any time of day or night seven days a week. There is no need to wait for the business office to open. The officers on patrol will speak with you. Just request the dispatcher to have an officer call you or stop by at your location.

The Kinnelon Police Department has added dispatching services during the hours of 4:00 PM to 12:00 PM and weekends. Our dispatching desk is now manned everyday during the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 12:00 PM. During the hours of midnight to 8:00 AM and holidays, the Borough of Butler Police Department answers our 973-838-5400 number anytime our office is closed. The dispatcher relays your message to the duty officers in our community for response. Again, it is not necessary to wait until our business office opens to make a complaint or report.

The Kinnelon police officers respond to ALL emergency calls including fire and first-aid calls. Our patrol cars are equipped with first-aid equipment including Heart Stream Defibrillators. Several police officers are EMT qualified.

The officers routinely patrol the Borough looking for suspicious activity in an attempt to prevent crime. Enforcement of criminal and motor vehicle laws are necessary to keep our community and streets safe. The police department also provides additional services, such as vacation house checks, community crime prevention programs, safety programs, Junior Police Academy and school programs such as D.A.R.E. programs. Resident photo identification cards can be obtained for a slight fee. Applications are available during daytime office hours.

HOUSE NUMBERS ARE CRITICAL: Please make sure your house number is visible during the day and reflective at night. The best location for your house number is at your driveway entrance, and on your mailbox if it is located at the roadside. This will ensure emergency vehicles can find your address when necessary. Every second counts during an emergency.

STORM-POWER OUTAGE: It is not uncommon to have this type of emergency; are you prepared? Remember your basics; water, flashlights, batteries, portable radio, blankets, etc. We need your assistance as well, please check on your neighbors - especially senior citizens - to see if all is okay. Remember telephone service can be lost, cell phones could be out as well.

PLEASE report suspicious activity in your neighborhood such as strange cars parked by a neighbor's home, occupants of a car watching a home; record the license plate and vehicle description if possible.
