13 years ago, the Kinnelon Boy Scout Troop 277 partnered with the Hudson Valley Orienteering Club in the SILAS MAP ADVENTURE  in order to, (not only honor a late Kinnelon resident and Assistant Scoutmaster, Bjorn Waalberg), but also to bring the sport of ORIENTEERING to all of the residents of Kinnelon who have such a wonderful park in which to enjoy this sport. When they come out to Silas Condict Park on Nov. 22nd (rain or shine) anytime between 10am and 2pm, they get to learn about this fun sport. They get to try out reading a map and using a compass in order to find all the checkpoints (that are marked on your map) out in the woods! This year, trails are offered from the new beginner level to advanced. We have compasses, maps, and electronic epunches to lend you. We also have folks who can teach you how to navigate the beautiful fall colors of Silas. All you need is a spirit of adventure and clothing/shoes appropriate for a walk in the woods.
